Week of May 13th, 2013

We are building a farm on our bulletin board.  Our farm has horses, cows, pigs, and chicken.  You should check it out!  We will be adding more things that a farm needs and some vegetable and fruit gardens!  Here are some students creating our animals.

Students listened to Go Away, Big Green Monster! without seeing the pictures.  They had to use the describing words to help them make a picture of the monster.  This was to help students to use describing words in their new narrative writing pieces.  Students are writing fictional stories about an animal that has a problem.

Math Centers

Students tried out Try-A-Tiles at one of the math centers this week.  Students use tiles with the numbers 0 through 9 and must find a place for them on their board.  The boards work on different skills such as ordering numbers, comparing numbers, addition, and subtraction.  This center requires perseverance in order to solve the puzzles!  Students worked on Telling Time and Zoom on the Ipads.  Students at the game center played Sum Swamp and Minus Maze.

These students are hard at work at their Daily 5 Centers.

During math today, students created 3-D structures and had to turn them into 2-D pictures.

We did not have new Word Wall words this week.  We are busy reviewing all of the words we have learned this year!

Week of May 6th, 2013

We started a new math unit called Blocks and Boxes.  We started off the unit with a scavenger hunt!  Students had to match 3-D shapes up with their "footprints".  We discussed 3 of the attributes that 3-D shapes can have.  Those are corners, sides, and edges.

We read Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens.  We discussed and wrote about if we thought the rabbits were being fair.  Students had to use proof from the book and make a connection.

Math Centers
Students at the Ipads worked on Math LinkUp and Base Ten Fun.  Students at the BrightLink played 100 Number Grid and Shark Numbers.  Students with Ms. Henault worked on story problems and making equivalent equations.

Our Word Wall words were friend and month.

Week of May 3rd, 2013

Here we are doing a Brain Break or J.A.M. on the BrightLink.  Here are some two of the new videos we have done.

We had some extra recess on Thursday as a celebration for getting all our Paws Points.  It was beautiful outside!

We learned 2 new games this week.  They are called Tens Plus and Roll Tens.  Tens Plus helps students to understand equivalent equations.  Roll Tens helps student to count larger numbers in an efficient way.  It also helps students to understand place value.

Math Centers
Students worked on Math Link Up and Mathmateer on the Ipads.  Students at the game center played Hermit Crab's Home and Crab Apple Tollway.  These games helped with addition skills, subtraction skills, and solving story problems.  Students worked with me on a game called Sum What.  This game helps students think of equivalent equations and work on different math facts.

We started a new read aloud books this week.  The books is Charlotte's Web.  This book goes along with our Farming Unit.

Our Word Wall words this week were does and over.
