Today was all about James and the Giant Peach!

Look what we made!
We ended the day by watching the movie.  We collected paws points for two weeks to earn this celebration!

Week of February 10th, 2014

We made our mailboxes for our Valentine's Day celebration.  We will be celebrating on Monday now!

This week in math we focused on fractions.  We learned about halves and fourths.  Students worked on dividing different shapes into halves and fourths.  We know that it's important for all the pieces to be equal.  We played a fun game to help us learn about halves.  I saw some great teamwork from everyone in the class trying to solve this puzzle.  See if you can find all thirteen ways!  We found twelve!

We just finished reading James and the Giant Peach.  We have been collecting our paws points for two weeks, so that we can watch the movie James and the Giant Peach.

In writing, we continue to work on our nonfiction All About books.  Students worked on writing subtitles and facts about their topic.  They also worked on drawing detailed pictures with labels that help the reader learn more about their topic.

Week of February 3, 2014

We have been measuring different taped lines on the floor.  We have used different units such as our own feet, baby feet, basketball player feet, and Popsicle sticks.  We have been discussing how changing the unit changes our measurement.
During Math Menu, students have been working on telling time.  We have practiced telling time to the hour and the half hour.  Some student played bingo to practice their time telling skills!  We also learned an app today called Telling Time.  It will be a choice next week during Math Menu.

One of our Word Study jobs this week was to work as a team to put Word Wall words in alphabetical order.  The words were written on Popsicle sticks.  I saw a lot of great team work!

Our Word Wall words this week were say, says, and see.
Mr. Lane talked to us about giving people green, yellow, and red thoughts.  We give green thoughts when we are being kind.  We give yellow and red thoughts when we don't think of other people's feelings.  We read the book How To Lose All Your Friends and made a list of ways to give people red and yellow thoughts and a list of ways to give people green thoughts.  We showed Mr. Lane our lists and he was impressed!

Valentine's Day: Make sure to check your backpack for your class list.  If you choose to make Valentine's Day cards, please make one for everyone in the class!
