Week of November 16, 2015

We finished up publishing our teaching books by editing, coloring, and creating covers.

We made maps and wrote about who would use our maps and why they would use them.  Our maps had to have titles, a compass rose, a map key, and at least one label.

In math this week, students worked in partners to trace their feet.  They then filled in their foot prints with tiles.  They counted the tiles and recorded their number on a sticky note.  We worked together to order the numbers from least to greatest.

We played a game called Subtraction Roll.

We celebrated our teaching books by reading them to our kindergarten buddies in Mrs. Bouchard's class.  It was so much fun!

Have a great vacation!  Thank you to all the families that bought us new books for our classroom!

Dolphins!

Dolphins from Lily Henault on Vimeo.

We worked with Ms. Burroughs to research dolphins.  We used books and Tumblebooks to conduct our research.  Students worked together to write, draw, create, and record this book!

Week of November 9, 2015

Mrs. Burroughs  helped students research and record facts about dolphins.  She used tumblebooks and books from the library.  We used our research to create our own a digital book about dolphins. Students worked with a buddy to create a page for the book.

We learned a new math app called Math Garden.  This app is good for practicing addition and subtraction facts.

We worked with Mrs. Dana's class to put the garden to bed.  It was a lot of fun!

We learned another app during word study.  This app is called Sight Words.  It helps students to read, remember, and write sight words.  It also helps students to practice lower case letters.
For our paws point celebration this week students were allowed to choose any apps from our App Menu.

Week of November 2, 2015

We played Roll and Record and Bump to practice our addition skills.

We made books about different community helpers.

In writing this week, we added Table of Contents to our teaching books. Students also worked on adding introductions to their teaching books.  We explored different nonfiction texts to find examples of interesting intruductions.

We had a paws points celebration today!  We had quiet time.  We turned off the lights and listened to relaxing music.  Students could read, draw, write, or relax but it had to be quiet!

Our word wall words this week were who, what, and when.
