Week of March 23, 2015

We worked on going back and checking our math work.  We have been working really hard on writing  numbers up to 120 correctly.

We were so lucky to have Matteo's grandmother come in and teach us how to make books about the life cycle of a plant.  She magically shrunk them down into little, tiny books!

In word study, we have been working on adding endings to words.  The endings we have worked on are -s, -ed, and -ing.

Week of March 16, 2015

We have been learning about plants during science.  We have been thinking about the parts of a plant and things that plants need to live.  We created our own plant pictures and labeled the different parts of our plants.  First grade is still hoping for spring to really arrive!

We have been working hard on our story problems.  We have been thinking about the different strategies people use to solve story problems.  This week we wrote a subtraction story problem about balloons and everyone got to solve it.
We have started a new fiction writing unit.  Students have really enjoyed coming up with their own pretend characters and stories!

Week of March 9, 2015

We created math fact flowers for our bulletin board this week.

We are hoping it will make spring come faster!

We have started a new science unit about plants.  We have been thinking about the parts of a plant and what plants need to survive.
We have been in school for 116 days!  We use our days in school to practice different math skills.  These skills include place value, counting by 10's and 1's, writing numbers, and thinking about what number comes after.
We also got to make our handprints on the wall!

Jericho!

Miss Henault's Jericho Project from JES on Vimeo.

This is our video project about places to visit in Jericho. Students wrote and painted their own pages for our Jericho book. They used the pages to create their part for this project.

Week of March 4, 2015

I hope everyone enjoyed their vacations!  We are continuing our persuasive writing unit by writing about our favorite books.  We are working on writing introductions and convincing our reader to read the books.

We did a Force and Motion word search.  Students also created their plans for their ball and ramp experiments.
We have been practicing telling time to the hour and half hour.  One way we have been practicing is by using an app called Telling Time.

Please check backpacks for the spring conference schedule. Return the paper as soon possible if you would like to come in for a conference!
