Random Act of Kindness!

Image result for popcorn clipartThank you to the generous person or people that gave Mr. Brezic $5.00 for our class to order popcorn next Friday!  We earned a celebration, and I was planning on buying popcorn for the class but someone had already taken care of it.  Thank you for your thoughtful gesture!

Math Menu in Motion

Math Packets

Every week students will be bringing home completed math packets in their folders.  The math pages are all review of concepts we have worked on during math time.  These packets are the only job that they have to get done during Math Menu.  All the other math choices are optional (games and technology).  These packets are a great way to see what your student has been working on during math time.

Word Study

Word Study is a time that we focus on our spelling and handwriting skills.  Today, we played a group game called Hang Mouse on a website called Spelling City.  The link for Spelling City is located under our Learning Online space.  Students can practice spelling words using different games.  I only use the free games that are available.  We are currently working on the words in the CVC section, if your child would like to practice at home.

Math Menu

This week we learned about what Math Menu looks like in our classroom.  Math Menu is a time when students can choose how they want to practice their math skills.  They can do math by themselves, math with a partner, ipad, or computer.  This is also a time when students can work one on one and in small groups with teachers.  Next week, students will start signing up for their choices.

We ended math time today with this video.  We are working on counting forwards and backwards!

Highlights From Week Two

We have been working on our reading stamina.  We are up to independently reading for 12 minutes!  Students also learned how to shop for books in our classroom.

We played a math game this week called Collect 20.  It helped us with our math skills and with being a good partner.
We read the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today?  Students wrote and drew about ways you could fill someone's imaginary bucket at school.

We have artwork hanging on our bulletin board.  You should check it out!  Students wrote and drew about an important detail about themselves.  Students used different materials to create their artwork.

We started practicing buddy reading this week.

Rain Gear

Please send your student with rain gear on rainy days.  Students will go outside on warm days when it is lightly raining.  Rain gear should include boots and a rain coat.  Thank you!

A Great Start to the Year

It has been a wonderful start to our school year.  We have been busy learning about our classroom, routines, expectations, and about each other!

We have been exploring different tools in our classroom.

  We practiced writing our numbers!

We read Chrysanthemum and thought about how our words can affect the people around us.

Most importantly, we have had fun playing together!
