Last day of school!

We had a blast playing board games on the last day of school!  We also had a Whole School Morning Meeting, an extra recess, and watched an episode or Arthur.  Students got to meet their second grade teachers at the end of the day.

Thank you all for a great year!  Have a wonderful summer!

Week of June 10th, 2013

I can't believe we only have three more days of school!  All the pictures on our blog this week were taken by first grade photographers.  On Monday, we used shaving cream to practice our spelling.  It was a lot of messy fun!

Students made signs for themselves for our Reader's Theater.  They all did such a great job!  Make sure you watch the video and our book recommendations!

We have been playing a new game called Night at the Museum.  Students have to move around without letting the guard see them.
Mr. Bouchard taught us a new app called Toontastic.  Students are creating their own cartoons with a partner.  The cartoons must have all the parts of a story.  They must include an introduction, climax, resolution, a wrap up.

We also got to go to Mrs. Randall's Wax Museum.

Have a great weekend!

Week of June 3rd, 2013

All the pictures seen on our blog are taken by first grade photographers.  Every student gets a day to be the photographer for the day.

Here is our farming bulletin board.  Our class named the farm The Henault Farm.  Students created the animals, plants, and other things farms need.

Students worked with a partner or in a small group to create their own survey.  They created the question, asked the class, collected the data, and made a representation using the data.
Their posters had to include the question asked, a representation, and an equation.

Students presented their posters to the class.
We created covers for our animals narratives we have been working on.

Our Math Centers this week included Tangrams, Double Dice Addition, Make a Dollar with a spinner, IPads, and Sum Swamp.  Students have become so independent at their centers!

We had so much fun at The Davis Farm!
Ms. Henault ready for some fun!
Students got to feed the calves.
Mrs. Davis teaching us about their farm.
We got to ride on the wagon to and from the farm.
This is where the milking takes place twice a day.

We watched Charlotte's Web with Mrs. Baer's.  It was a paws points celebration.  Both first grade classes read the book first.

Week of May 27th, 2013

Look at how many words we have added to our Word Wall this year!

We have been working really hard to show our math thinking when solving addition story problems that involve groups of things.  On Thursday, everyone got a problem on our Marvelous Math Wall!

Math Centers

At the game center, students chose between using Tangrams, Two Dice Addition, and Money Spinner.

Students also worked at the Problem Box Center.  They wrote their own word problems and solved problems written by their classmates.  Students at the Ipads worked on Adding Apples, Math Garden, and PopMath. These apps all work on addition and subtraction skills.

We are currently working on our last writing piece.  Students are planning and writing a narrative.  The narrative must have an animal character that is dealing with a problem.  We have been reading a lot of books that have an animal character in them that are trying to solve a problem.

Come check out our farming bulletin board!  It is almost done and pictures are coming soon!
