Week of March 17, 2014

Students continued to play Tens Go Fish.  We are trying to get really fast at our ways to make ten.  This will be a choice during Math Menu next week.
We are working on our combination story problems again.  We have been discussing different strategies that we can use so that we know we have found all the combinations.
Some students have started designing covers for their All About Books.
Look at how many Word Wall words we have learned! One of our editing jobs for our All About books was making sure that all of the Word Wall words were spelled correctly.  Our Word Wall words this week were about, look, and so.  I am really encouraging students to use the Word Wall as a tool in their writing!

Check Out Our Jericho Video!

During a couple of library times, students worked with Mr. Bouchard and Mrs. Burroughs to create a video about people and places in Jericho.  This was in connection to our Community unit.  Students used the iPads and worked in groups to create this awesome video!

Week of March 10th, 2014

Another short week!  I hope you enjoyed all the snow!
We have been working on our facts that make ten.  We have played Tens Go Fish and a game called Make Ten.  Tens Go Fish is a great game to play at home!

We have been working on story problems that have 3 addends. Students have been using their ways to make 10 to solve their story problems.  We are still working on having neat, organized work!

Students used tens frames and unifix cubes to create a model that matches their thinking from their story problem.
Today were learned a new app called Math Duel. You play with a partner and try to solve math facts.  We worked on our addition math facts.

In writing, we are working hard to finish our nonfiction All About books.  Students are moving through the writing process and we can't wait to share them with you!  We are hoping to finish them soon, so we can invite families in for an Author's Celebration!

Our Word Wall words this week were out and not.
