Week of January 26, 2015

We have been measuring like crazy!  We have also started telling time, which is another form of measurement!

We did a science experiment.  We were wondering if a light ball or a heavy ball would roll farther off a ramp. We discovered that the heavy ball went further because it had more weight pushing it down the ramp. We had to use our measuring skills during science!

We started a new persuasive writing unit.  We are trying to convince our readers that our opinions are right!  We are working on writing our opinion, giving reasons, specific details, and sparkly words!

Week of January 5, 2015

We have started a new math unit about collecting, representing, and analyzing data.  We started by thinking about the question: would you rather be an eagle of a whale?  Students had to represent the data we collected in their own way.

Students also brainstormed their own question with a buddy and collected data from the whole class.  They used that data to create a representation that they shared with the class.  They also analyzed the data they collected.

Students played First Grade Yahtzee to work on their Additon fact fluency.
We wrote our New Years Wishes to go with our dolls that we created before vacation.  The wish had to be something about school.  Come check them out in our classroom!

I'm Social Studies, we brainstormed important places in Jericho.  We used that information to create a class book about Jericho.  Students worked in pairs to write, draw, and paint about a specific place in Jericho.

In word study, we are working on four new sounds.  These sounds are ink, ank, onk, and unk.
