Fun in the Garden with Mr. Bouchard!

Week of September 21, 2015

During math menu, we learned a new app called Adding Apples.  We also played the game Counting Fish on the computer.  This is game is on www.abcya.com.

We have been working on story problems in math.  Students are writing equations and showing their thinking.  We have tried some story problems where students have to find different combinations for one number. Students use unifix cubes and tens frames to help them think about the problem.

We started reading groups this week.  The whole first grade is mixed up into groups, so that everyone is working on the correct skills and level for them.  

Our word wall words this week are as and has.  We also started working on digraphs or H Brothers.  These are the chunks SH, TH, WH, and CH.

Week of September 14, 2015

We have started doing addition story problems in our math work book. We are working on showing our thinking and writing equations that match the story problem.

We are practicing our addition math facts by playing roll and record.

We used the ipad in word study on Thursday.  We used an app called Word Wizard to help us build different words.

We played a math game called Compare.

We started practicing our choices for Math Menu time.  Math Menu is the first 30 minutes of math.  Here is where we sign up.

We also had a math celebration with Mrs. Baer and Mrs. Reinhardt.  We got to play a lot of fun games.

We have been creating a class book about the life cycle of a monarch caterpillar. 

Two authors in our class shared a book they wrote at free choice.

We have 6 words on our word wall so far.  They are I, a, his, is, and, and the.

You may have noticed the bookshelf that is on our blog.  I will post different books we read in our classroom on the bookshelf.  We are reading Junie B. Jones to get ready for our field trip to the Flynn!

First Two Weeks of School!

Today we worked on the garden with Mr. Bouchard and Nurse Amy.  We weeded, watered, picked tomatoes, and picked carrots.  We also planted seeds that we will be trying to grow in our classroom this year.

We have two monarch caterpillars!  The bigger caterpillar has already made it's chrysalis.  We saw the smaller caterpillar shed it's skin.

We worked together to build and record staircases during math.

We have been practicing reading to a buddy.

We have also been practicing reading to ourselves out of our books boxes.  We have made it to 14 minutes! We also learned how to pick books from our classroom library.

We have been working out of our first grade math books!

We practiced writing our numbers with a game called Race to Trace.

We read the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today?  We made a list and pictures of different things we could do to fill other people's invisible buckets.
