First Grade Newsflash
Every Thursday be on the lookout for our First Grade Newsflash! As a class, we will be picking an important event that is happening in our classroom. The class will help me to write the sentence. This is called interactive writing. Interactive writing helps students with identifying high frequency words, letter formation, spelling patterns, and sentence structure. Enjoy!
During buddy reading today students shared their published persuasive writing pieces. This was a practice for our celebration this afternoon where we shared our pieces with our third grade buddies!

Cardboard, pigeons, and more!
The cardboard challenge was so much fun!
Our new writing unit is persuasive writing and convincing our readers about our opinions. We have been reading a lot of pigeon books by Mo Willems because the main character is always trying to convince the reader about something. This week we started working on making our pigeons for our bulletin board!
Our third grade buddies came to read with us in our classroom yesterday!

Celebrations, Sight Words, and a Visitor!
We finished up our first writing unit with a celebration. All the published books are being showcased on our First Grade Favorites shelf.
Students received a list of sight words to keep in their book boxes, so they can practice reading them independently or with a buddy. They also learned a buddy game called Guess My Word? A student picks a word from the list and the other student or students ask yes or no questions until they figure it out what the mystery word is.
Nurse Lindsay came back to visit us again to teach us about dental health! Students even got a goody bag to bring home!
