Celebrations, Sight Words, and a Visitor!
We finished up our first writing unit with a celebration. All the published books are being showcased on our First Grade Favorites shelf.
Students received a list of sight words to keep in their book boxes, so they can practice reading them independently or with a buddy. They also learned a buddy game called Guess My Word? A student picks a word from the list and the other student or students ask yes or no questions until they figure it out what the mystery word is.
Nurse Lindsay came back to visit us again to teach us about dental health! Students even got a goody bag to bring home!

Pajama Day Celebration!
Pajama Day
We have earned enough “paws” points to have a class celebration. We earn “paws” points by following our school rules. Our celebration will be having Pajama Day on Thursday (10-12-17). Students are invited to wear pajamas but they do not have to. If you choose to wear slippers, please bring alternative shoes for recess.

Super Readers!
We finished up our first reading unit today. Students reflected on a reading strategy that they feel they have improved upon so far this school year. They wrote them on sentence strips, and they are all hanging in the hallway. You should check them out!

We started working on our Original Works projects yesterday with a wonderful retired art teacher named Ann! We will finish our art projects next week!
Thank you to everyone that showed up to Open House! It was great to see students so proud of their hard work!

What's Happening in Ms. Henault's Class?
We really enjoyed our popcorn celebration on Friday!
We have been working on story problems that have us create different addition combinations for a certain number. Students worked together in groups or pairs to build the combinations with unifix cubes.
Our kindness rocks are ready to go outside! Check out the official website for more information: The Kindness Rocks Project!
I hope to see everyone at Open House tomorrow from 6-7!
