Collecting Data and Fun with the Flynn

We have started a new math unit about data.  We started by collecting and representing data from the class about the question: Would you rather be an eagle or a whale for a day?

Students then worked with a buddy to create a question, collect data, and create their own representation.

 Next Friday, we are going to the Flynn Theater.  We are seeing Dragons Love Tacos.  We have been reading all five of the stories that helped to inspire the play.  The stories are Dragons Love Tacos, Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa, The Dot, The Interrupting Chicken, and Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride.  We were so lucky to have someone from the Flynn come and lead some fun activities about these five stories.  Students really got to try out their acting skills!

Wrapping Up the Week!

We wrote new I Can statements for the hallway.  These readers have grown so much!

We wrapped up our fictional story unit with a publishing party.  We will be writing realistic fiction stories when we return from vacation.

 We had a guest reader from second grade for read aloud today.

Practicing for Our Concert

We hope to see you tonight at 6:00 for the art show and concert.  Our class wrote a wonderful song, and we can't wait to share it with you!

Try-A-Tiles and Learning Lessons

We have been working on Try-A-Tile pages during math and math menu.  Students can work on them independently or with a buddy.

We have really been working on our comprehension skills during reading.  We have been thinking about how books have different lessons.  We have also been looking for proof of the feelings our characters are having.

Students quizzed each other on long vowel magic E words using whiteboards!

We are finishing up our measurement unit by learning about fractions!
