Week of April 15th, 2013

We have been working on different story problems that involve counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's.  Students must also make an equation to match their thinking.

Look at how much our bean plants have grown!  The first grade scientists have been doing some excellent observations.

Can you tell which plant we grew in the light and which plant we grew in the dark?

We read the book Too Loud Lily by Sophie Laguna, and students discussed and wrote about if they thought it was acceptable for her to be so loud.  They had to use proof from the text to back up their thinking, and they had to make a personal connection.

Math Centers
Students at the Ipad center worked on Math Link Up and Zoom.  Students at the Problem Box center worked on writing addition, subtraction, and combination story problems.  They then had to solve them in their Math Journals.  Students who worked with me, were working on fact families and solving for an unknown addend.  For example, 2+_=3+3.

Our Word Wall words this week were say, says, and try.
